Lest We Forget $1 poppy 2018 Perth Mint

ANZAC DAY – LEST WE FORGET $1 RED POPPY 2018

The Perth Mint struck a commemorative ANZAC Day one dollar AlBr uncirculated dated 2018 portraying the hand of a child placing a red poppy into the hand of a veteran. A bugler in silhouette is seen in the background.

This coloured version of the annual Lest We Forget ANZAC Day coin was issued as ephemera to accompany the subscription version of 2018 3-Coin 1/2oz 50c Silver Proof ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary collection. The coin did not accompany non-subscription issues.

The Perth Mint’s 2018 declared mintage report states that 1,313 x 3-coin sets were issued. No mention is made of the coloured Aluminium-Bronze Lest We Forget coin and no indication is given on the number of sets issued under the subscription program. The figure 1,313 therefore represents the maximum possible mintage if all sets were sold by subscription. The actual number issued is probably well below 1,000. The relatively unknown coin is rarely seen on the secondary market and has the lowest mintage of any of the Perth Mint’s aluminium-bronze $1 coin issues, making it the key coin in obtaining a complete Perth Mint $1 aluminium-bronze collection.
